AREF MEDDEB studied at the high school of Khaznarad in Bardo, Tunis and pursued his engineering college studies at IPEIN, Nabeul, Tunisia. He obtained his Engineer’s degree from ENIT, Tunisia, in 1992, and both his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Ecole Polytechnique, Montreal, Canada, in 1995 and 1998, respectively.

He worked with Alcatel (1993), INRS-Telecom (1999-2000), Teleglobe (2000-2001), and Nortel (2001-2002). He was associate professor and Deputy Director at ISITCom, Tunisia (2002-2011), where he also founded and headed the Telecommunications Department (2003-2005). He was Director of the National  Engineering School (ENISo), University of Sousse from Dec. 2016 to Dec. 2020, where he also was Director of Study and Deputy Director from 2014 to 2016. He was full Professor in ICT at the department of Industrial Computer Engineering at ENISo since 2012 where he founded the Networked Objects, Control & Communication Systems (NOCCS) research Laboratory in 2016. He is currently full professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Sherbrooke, Canada.

His research interests include Cybersecurity, Internet of Things, Post Quantum Cryptography, Wireless Sensor Networks, Cloud/Fog/Edge Computing, and RFID systems with focus on Privacy, Network Security Protocols, QoS, Routing, and Design issues. He is listed three times in a row among the top 2% scientists in Networking and Telecommunications worldwide, in 2019-20-21, according to a survey published by a research team from Stanford University.

He earned a badge in Introduction to Cybersecurity from Cisco academy in 2021.

He launched and managed the National Solidarity Initiative “Yes We Breathe” to fight COVID-19 in 2020. This led to an unprecedented involvement by numerous academic institutions and showed the real potential of Tunisian students.
